Help with Morgans needed

2 Attachment(s)
I have come into these 2 CC Morgans and also about 25 more nice AU Morgans and wondered who I should use to grade them or if it's needed. It's between PCGS & NGC as to which I'll send them.
Thanks in advance

Those are really the only two to deal with. I would personally use PCGS.

oooh, an '89-cc. congratulations. NGC or PCGS are both good choices, although they are both very picky- I've had coins rejected that seem absolutely problem-free to me. It's worth a try, though; If I had to pick one, I'd say PCGS.

Wow the 1889CC looks like a VF. Send it to PCGS. The 1893 may only be a VG. It might not be worth the grading fee.

Just glancing at your pics I'd give that 89 a 40, but I don't know, it might grade 45. Can't get very accurate grading from a photo. Do either coins have any cartwheel sheen in the fields?

I would definitely have both graded.

Try PCGS... If they body bag them for being cleaned, then go for ANACS.

Both PCGS and NGC avoid cleaned or tampered with coins, so if PCGS bags it, then it's likely NGC will too. That means ANACS is the best and really the only choice for problem coins.

If you have a PCGS without any major problems you can get pretty close to retail.

You could go with NGC, but I don't think they have the cache' that PCGS has, which translates into perceived value, which means PCGS coins are easier to sell and sell for more, most of the time.

NGC is a fine company, I just don't think you would get quite as good a return when you go to sell it.

Here's a pic of a coin I recently sold on ebay. ANACS AU Details... net EF45 (cleaned).

If it hadn't been cleaned it would have sold for nearly three times what I got for it. I think "someone" might have polished it with Brasso back in the fifties. :banghead:

Amongst collectors (and buyers) PCGS has always been perceived as the better of the two, with NGC the secondary choice. Not only does NGC grade much more loosely, but with the release if the 2006 Buffalo they serious hurt their credibility by grading almost 20 times more gold Buffaloes at MS 70 than PCGS, because they work with the TV coin shows.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

In addition - if you look at Ebay or APMEX - you will see people pay more for coins graded by PCGS which is important when you sell and what the best return on your coins.

So I would also say - go PCGS,

Cheers!

I have a couple of 1903 O and some other rather pristine morgans with dates of the better years and mint marks that would be worth it since I got a great deal on all of them(13.00 ea.)

I don't know why anyone thinks these have been cleaned? Is there an easy way to tell?
Thanks everone for your help in this, after getting a great deal I didn't want to screw it up.
I plan on getting them graded and selling them to turn it into bullion(you know you can't ever have enough)
I also plan on going with PCGS
Thanks again for the help.

I have to agree with your grades on these two coins. The 89 is probably vf-20 and the 93 is vg-8.
